SAILOR’S RUM, purchased on the late March Inglis Digital sale. Formerly trained by Tony and Calvin McEvoy – he is a strong three-year-old chestnut gelding by Merchant Navy out of a group 3 winning mare Brugal Reward!
The Merchant Navy’s tend to improve with racing especially during their three year old campaigns and we can’t wait to get him up to Central Queensland, under the care of Nick Walsh who over the past 12 months has trained 34 winners from just 105 runners – an incredible strike rate of 32.4% and has already done a phenomenal job with our recent purchases AWOL and SHADOWEN.
SAILOR’S RUM is a still a maiden and his recent performances have been impressive from a form and ratings perspective and indicate he can progress through the sprinting grades in Central Queensland and possibly even metropolitan ability in time.
His full brother STANDING ORDER is currently trained by Tony Gollan in South-East Queensland. On our ratings he improved a good four to five lengths with the change of environment highlighted by winning a class 1 at Ipswich first up running strong overall time to finishing his recent preparation running second in a class 4 on the Gold Coast during the Magic Millions carnival behind a progressive sprinter LAVISH EMPIRE both over 1350m. SAILOR’S RUM has a very similar racing pattern to STANDING ORDER with a high cruising speed and an ability to settle on the speed which is very beneficial for fast dry tracks in Queensland.
